CIGARETTE CASE FOR A NEW TOBACCO ADDICTION TREATMENT

The Industrial Equipment Design Centre (CDEI UPC), in collaboration with the Centre for Addiction Research and Treatment (CITA), has participated in the development of a new treatment for tobacco addiction based on the innovative use of existing technology. The aim of using the mobile phone is to delay consumption, and thus facilitate the process of giving up tobacco. CDEI UPC has developed a functional design for the manufacture of the device.

EUROPEAN PROJECT FOR THE AERONAUTICS INDUSTRY

The Electromagnetic Compatibility Group (GCEM UPC) has completed its participation in the HIRF SE European project. The Electromagnetic Compatibility Group (GCEM UPC) has completed its participation in the HIRF SE European project. The focus of this project is electromagnetic compatibility. The aim is to provide the aeronautics industry with numerical simulation methods to assess aircraft in the development phase. The opportunity to assess the electromagnetic behavior of the structure and wiring before the final prototype of the aircraft is built considerably reduces the expensive phase of certification and testing. The simulations take into account the new materials used in the aeronautics industry. A total of 43 partners have been involved in the project, whose total budget is 26.5 million euros. The project has been led by Alenia Aeronautica S.p.A.

CIT UPC ATTENDS THE INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON FUSION NUCLEAR TECHNOLOGY (ISFNT)

CIT UPC has taken part in the 11th International Symposium on Fusion Nuclear Technology (ISFNT-11), which was held in Barcelona on 16th-20th September. The aim of the Symposium is to promote information exchange between scientists and technicians, present the latest advances in the field, and discuss the main issues in the development of fusion as a source of safe and sustainable energy for the future.

RESEARCHERS

INNOTEX CENTER PRESENTATION AT THE MAN-MADE FIBERS CONGRESS OF DORNBIRN

Daniel Palet, a member of the Innotex Center’s team of researchers, took part in the Dornbirn Man-Made Fibers Congress, which was held on 11th-13th September in Austria. This is the most important international congress on artificial and synthetic fibers. Its 52nd edition attracted over 800 professionals from the sector, from over 30 countries. The Innotex Center’s paper was entitled "A New Method to Apply Microcapsules to Textiles in the Spinning Process" and was written by PhD. Feliu Marsal and Daniel Palet.

GACETA DENTAL PRIZE

PhD. F. Xavier Gil Mur was awarded the prize for best R&D article published in the Gaceta Dental 2013 journal for a paper entitled "Sellado biológico para modificación superficial del cuello del implante dental: ensayos in vitro con fibroblastos humanos" (Biological sealant for surface modification of the neck of dental implants: in vitro trials with human fibroblasts). PhD. Gil is a researcher in the Biomaterials, Biomechanics and Tissue Engineering area of the Biomedical Engineering Research Centre (CREB UPC).

NEW EDITION OF THE FRASCATI MANUAL

Work has begun on a new edition of the Frascati Manual, the sixth since it was first published in 1962. The Manual is the result of the joint work of experts (National Experts on Science and Technology Indicators - NESTI) from the OECD who collect statistics and publish data and indicators on countries’ economic and human efforts to increase their knowledge capacity through R&D activities. It is one of the most influential and widely translated reports of all those published by the OECD.
